Microformats

hResume After attending the PHP GeekMeet in Cluj, I’ve talked briefly with Andrei Gheorghe and remembered a presentation that he held some time ago at Wurbe, about Microformats.

Well, what can I say? Microformats are cool idea, that will allow scripts to better retrieve the information from the Internet. Of course, if people actually use them. So I’ve decided to be among the pioneers in this matter and post my own resume on the web, formatted as hResume. Here

Some of the microformats ideas are nice, but some are a little bit to intrusive for the actual user. For example the abbr design pattern, where one would use a title to communicate more accurate information of a given date. This is somehow annoying for a normal user and apparently for screen readers.

For this and several other reasons, BBC dropped microformats support in June last year.

Sometimes I believe we should pay more attention to the actual user and let this machine-friendly web sites in the hands of AI scientists.

As long as it’s just adding some special class names to xhtml items, I don’t think that users will be drawn back by this.

For some reason, I can’t access that BBC page, the internet connection is very “laggy”. But I’ll look it up and post a comment later.

    PS: 10x :P
